Noel Gallagher’s Rendition of ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ Draws Criticism From Liam Gallagher

The Gallagher brothers have been at odds for the past few months, with Liam and Noel trading barbs back and forth in relation to Oasis’ potential reunion. Liam recently made headlines when he declared that a reunion was “gonna happen very soon” in a cover interview with NME. However, tensions have resurfaced after Noel said that while his brother wants a reunion to happen, he had not been in contact to arrange anything.

Recently, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds released a rendition of Joy Division’s iconic song ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ as part of the BBC Radio 2 Piano Room series. The performance was accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra, and Noel expressed his initial trepidation about performing the track. “I was like, ‘How can I get away with that?’ Because it’s such an iconic [song] and, being from Manchester… well, this is going to be tricky,” he said.

Liam Gallagher had no hesitation in expressing his opinion on his brother’s rendition. “I must once again apologise on behalf of my family for [Noel’s] piss poor and damn rite blasphemous version of joy division’s love will tear us apart tut fucking tut SORRY,” he wrote on Twitter.

Noel has also directed incendiary comments towards The 1975 frontman Matty Healy for calling for an Oasis reunion, labelling him a “fucking slack-jawed fuckwit” who “needs to go over how shit his band is and split up”.

Noel’s latest release ‘Council Skies’ has been receiving rave reviews, with NME calling it “the brightest, most listenable collection of songs he’s pieced together in some time”. To celebrate the album, Noel Gallagher and his band have planned a full UK arena tour this December and a North American tour with support from Garbage.

The future of an Oasis reunion remains uncertain, with Liam insisting that his brother has “done a lot of damage to Oasis as a brand” and “a lot of making up to do not just to me but to you the fans”. With tensions still running high, it appears an Oasis reunion won’t be happening any time soon.
