Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams declared her stance against Ron DeSantis during the band’s performance this past weekend (May 27) at the Adjacent Music Festival in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
“I’ll be happy to tell you I’m very fucking comfortable talking politics,” Williams told the crowd. “If you vote for Ron DeSantis, you’re fucking dead to me. Is that comfortable enough for anyone?”
The Republican presidential candidate is known for presenting himself as an “anti-woke” crusader, and has recently been criticized for passing political directives that have made Florida unsafe for people of color, LGBTQIA+ communities, those who speak with an accent, and international travelers.
Williams is no stranger to voicing her opinions on politics and social issues. Earlier this year, she performed a cover of Deana Carter’s ‘Did I Shave My Legs For This?’ at Love Rising, a fundraiser for LGBTQIA+ organisations in her hometown of Nashville, Tennessee. In addition, she also shared a message in her Instagram story that read “We stand in solidarity with our LGBTQIA+ family and local LGBTQIA+ orgs in this fight, not only for inclusion for our friends and family in the queer community, but for radical acceptance and empowerment for each of them.”
Paramore are currently touring in support of their sixth album, ‘This Is Why’, released in February via Atlantic Records. The album has been met with glowing reviews, and has been praised for its warmth and triumphant sound.
Williams and the band have always been open about their political and social views, and continue to use their platform to speak up for those who need it most.
