The family of the late Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison have announced the release of a book filled with the late singer’s artwork and illustrations. The book, titled Living in Colour: The Art of Scott Hutchison, is a tribute to the artist’s creative spirit and will be released on July 13th.
The book will include Hutchison’s illustrations from his time at the Glasgow School of Art, along with artwork for Frightened Rabbit releases, and featuring a selection of his book illustrations for various poet friends.
Grant Hutchison, Scott’s brother and drummer for both Frightened Rabbit and The Twilight Sad said, “I’ve always thought Scott’s artwork should be shared with more people. I think it shows another side to his creativity and just shows off how annoyingly talented he was.”
The book was put together by the remaining members of Frightened Rabbit, along with Scott’s family, and also includes artwork contributed by fans across the world.
The book was designed by Dave Thomas, otherwise known as dlt, who worked with Frightened Rabbit across their career. Speaking of the project, Thomas said, “Scott’s artwork has its own instantly recognisable visual language. His brilliantly detailed hand drawn illustrations and paintings of a gamut of characters and situations show the same observations on life, wicked sense of humour and playful use of words that were evident in his songwriting too.”
A portion of proceeds from book sales will be donated to Tiny Changes, a Scottish mental health charity founded by the Hutchison family following Scott’s death in 2018. Grant Hutchison commented, “Young people need a lot of help and attention, and it’s something that affects almost everybody. Not every young person will suffer from poor mental health, but our approach is a preventative one. We want to give them the tools and the skills to deal with it, even when they’re at a point when they don’t need them.”
Living in Colour: The Art of Scott Hutchison is a way to celebrate the legacy of a talented artist and musician, and to raise awareness about mental health issues. Fans of Frightened Rabbit and Hutchison’s artwork can preorder the book today.
