Melbourne is set to welcome a brand new festival this coming August and September; Now Or Never promises an exciting program of live music, art and culture across seventeen days. The festival’s first announcement of performers is packed full of big names, featuring Kelela, Serpentwithfeet and Autechre.
The festival will kick off on Thursday August 17th, with the majority of events taking place in the historic Royal Exhibition Centre, the first time the venue has hosted concerts in over two decades. There will also be exciting events taking place outside of the Royal Exhibition Centre, such as the Never Permanent showcase curated by the team behind the creative design and technology festival Semi Permanent. Featuring thought-provoking keynote speakers and panel sessions from leading creative visionaries, this is sure to be an unmissable event.
On August 24th, Orchestra Victoria will be presenting an interpretation of Steve Reich’s production ‘Music For 18 Musicians’, which will be accompanied by a 16-metre-high video presentation from multimedia artist Jesse Woolston. The following night on August 25th, Actress and Max Cooper will be performing with a special 3D AV presentation, as well as traditional performances from Autechre and Giant Swan.
The Untitled Group will be presenting a show headlined by German house and techno producer Âme on August 26th, with additional performances from Axel Bowman, Ayebatonye, CC:DISCO! and Dameeeela. To round out the first announcement, Kelela will be performing an exclusive show on Sunday August 27th, with support from Serpentwithfeet.
Lord Mayor of Naarm, Sally Capp, said the festival “will bring large-scale live music back to the [venue] with an unmissable line-up that celebrates our incredible homegrown talent, alongside ground-breaking work from international artists.”
