Australian music fans are in for a treat this August and September, with the launch of the Now Or Never festival in Naarm/Melbourne. The 17-day event will bring some of the world’s most exciting musical talent to the iconic Royal Exhibition Centre, with the first line-up announcement featuring artists such as Kelela, Serpentwithfeet and Autechre.

The festival will kick off on Thursday August 17 and run until Saturday September 2, with a diverse program of music, art, culture and thought-provoking conversations. On August 24, the festival will host its first event, Never Permanent. Curated by the team behind creative design and technology festival Semi Permanent, the line-up has yet to be announced, but will feature “key speakers and panel sessions featuring leading creative visionaries.”

Murray Bell, founder of Semi Permanent, said: “We can’t wait to offer our platform to these world-renowned names in the industry. This line-up for Never Permanent is shaping up to be one of our best yet, and we’re thrilled for this to be a part of Now Or Never.”

The festival will also present an interpretation of the Steve Reich production ‘Music For 18 Musicians’, hosted by Orchestra Victoria and complemented by a 16-metre-high video presentation. On the 25th, Actress and Max Cooper will perform live AV sets, the latter in 3D, while Autechre and Giant Swan will also take the stage.

The following day, the Untitled Group will co-host a show headlined by German house and techno producer Âme, with additional performances from Axel Bowman, Ayebatonye, CC:DISCO! and Dameeeela. Kelela will round off the first announcement with her exclusive show on Sunday August 27, supported by Serpentwithfeet.

The City of Naarm/Melbourne’s Lord Mayor Sally Capp said the festival will “bring large-scale live music back to the [Royal Exhibition Centre] with an unmissable line-up”, adding that “Now Or Never will be an unmissable addition to our bustling events calendar this winter.”
