The Prodigy have revealed details for their upcoming ‘Army of the Ants’ tour, set to take place in the UK this winter. Fans of the rave-rock legends will be treated to a string of shows in Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Brighton, Cardiff, Birmingham and London, supported by Soft Play (formerly Slaves).

The band suffered the loss of frontman Keith Flint back in 2019, but last year they took the stage for their first tour since his death. During their shows, the band paid tribute to the icon during ‘Firestarter’, with an emotionally charged and powerful set.

Liam Howlett, the band’s leader, spoke to NME about the tour and the reaction from fans. He said: “We really felt the crowd were there to support us and give us the energy back and we are eternally grateful for that. Flinty will never leave us; he is embedded deep in the soul of this band and his energy will be felt in the music and through us onstage. That’s what I know and feel.”

The Prodigy’s live show was praised by NME, who said: “Uniting a misfit crowd of ravers and metalheads alike to celebrate life and legacy, their flame is burning brighter than ever. Not only are The Prodigy back, they’re here to reclaim their throne.”

When discussing the band’s future, Howlett revealed that they have been back in the studio writing new material. He said: “I think I finally realised that I can’t write new finished Prodigy music unless we are doing gigs and [are] out there submerged in it. The best time to write for me is after I come off stage – that’s when the clearest vision is. The sweat and peoples faces are fresh in my mind, the feeling is present.”

Howlett added that the band will “continue to ignite, uplift and destroy just as we always did.”

The Prodigy have chosen Soft Play as their support act, with Howlett saying: “Because they are fucking great – simply that.”

The band recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of ‘The Fat of the Land’, and Howlett described the mood in the camp when they were writing and making the album: “We were touring a lot so we were always busy, bizniz as usual, just writing the album… We were just getting on with what we were doing and staying focused.”

When asked if he sensed that they were making a game-changing record, Howlett said: “I knew ‘Firestarter’ was something that people hadn’t heard before for sure, also ‘Breathe’. We were just on fire really and properly on the attack.”

The Prodigy’s ‘Army of the Ants’ tour will kick off on November 16th in Glasgow, with tickets available from Friday June 16th.
