Rapper and songwriter Stormzy is back in the studio, and he’s started work on some new music.
The news comes after the artist released his third album, ‘This Is What I Mean’, last November. In an interview with Rolling Stone UK, Stormzy – real name Michael Ebenezer – opened up about his creative process.
The artist said: “I think I’m just where I’m meant to be, and I’m who I’m meant to be and I’m doing what I’m meant to do. I think the album reaffirmed my confidence, and it let me know that I should always stick to my guns, and I should always be brave.”
Stormzy also shared that his approach to making music is always very deep, but he never plans too far ahead. He said: “When I’m making music, it’s always super deep, but it’s never that deep. I can’t explain it, it’s deep because I take music so seriously, and it’s my craft and it’s my passion. I promise you, I’ll just go to the studio and however I feel that day, that’s what I do. I try not to be super premeditated.”
The rapper has also teamed up with Rockstar Energy to release a virtual show on Spotify on Friday, July 21, at 5pm BST. This show has been created using motion capture sensory tracking, and is part of the launch of their new ‘Press Play’ platform.
Additionally, Stormzy made a surprise appearance on stage at the London gig of his album collaborator Debbie. The two worked together on five songs for Stormzy’s last album, including the hit ‘Firebabe’.
With a back-catalogue of hits, and more music on the way, Stormzy is sure to be around for many years to come.
