Taylor Swift fans across Australia have been left disappointed as the singer-songwriter has announced that she will not be bringing her ‘Eras’ world tour to Brisbane. The tour will only feature two shows in Sydney and Melbourne, with Sabrina Carpenter as the opening act.
Harvey Lister, Chairman of ASM Global Asia Pacific, told ABC Radio Brisbane that Swift had been “definitely holding dates” at the Lang Park Stadium (aka Suncorp Stadium) in Brisbane, but ultimately dropped the shows. He explained that due to the singer’s tour schedule, she could only fit in two cities, Sydney and Melbourne, before she had to head to Singapore.
Lister went on to explain that the size of Lang Park didn’t factor in the decision as the stadium can hold around 60,000 people, while The Gabba can hold 50,000. He also said that building a larger temporary arena wouldn’t be feasible as “they are huge numbers”.
This is the first time Taylor has skipped Brisbane while touring Australia and marks a huge blow for her fans in the city, as she has included it in all five of her previous Australian tours. She even held her Australia debut at The Tivoli Theatre in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley in 2009.
Tickets for the Australian leg of Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras’ tour are now available, with VIP packages and American Express pre-sale tickets going live on Monday 26th June. General tickets will go on sale on Friday 30th June, with Melbourne shows going on sale at 2pm local time and Sydney shows going on sale at 10am local time. As an anti-scalping measure, tickets will only be released on Monday 12th February 2024.
Taylor Swift’s upcoming tour is sure to be one of the most talked about events of 2024 and fans across Australia are set to flock to the shows. Unfortunately, those in Brisbane won’t get the chance to see her perform live, leaving them no choice but to sadly miss out.
