Abel Tesfaye, known more commonly as The Weeknd, has confirmed that he is currently in the process of completing his third album. The Canadian singer has already put together two successful albums, ‘After Hours’ and ‘Dawn FM’, and has teased the idea of a trilogy for some time now.
In an interview with Variety, The Weeknd revealed details of the upcoming album, including that the title has been misconstrued by some fans. “I’m finishing the third part of this saga, of this trilogy,” he said. “The name of it will come out soon, but it’s not called what some fans think it’s called. What they think it’s called is actually a song on the album, but that’s not what the actual album is called.”
In addition to the release of his third album, The Weeknd has recently released two songs that he has co-written for HBO’s new show, ‘The Idol’. The show stars Lily-Rose Depp as a pop star who develops a controversial relationship with self-help guru and cult leader Tedros, played by The Weeknd. The two tracks released are ‘World Class Sinner/I’m A Freak’ and ‘The Lure’, both of which feature Lily-Rose Depp.
The Weeknd has also collaborated with Jennie from BLACKPINK for a new single called ‘One For The Girls’. His single ‘Double Fantasy’ is from the soundtrack of ‘The Idol’ and features Future.
The Weeknd is currently on a UK stadium tour as part of the celebration of his two albums ‘Dawn FM’ and ‘After Hours’. At his most recent gig in Manchester, The Weeknd ended his main set with the stadium-uniting song ‘Blinding Lights’, off the 2020 album ‘After Hours’.
The Weeknd has come a long way since his first mixtape in 2011 and is now one of the biggest names in music. Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of his third album and the conclusion of the trilogy.
