Today, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Courtney Barnett released news of the upcoming release of her newest album, End of the Day. The album is set to be released on September 8th and will be the last release under Barnett’s own label, Milk! Records, which she founded in 2012 at just 24 years of age.
End of the Day is an instrumental record that was originally recorded as the score for the documentary Anonymous Club. After a year of development, Barnett was able to take the tracks and stitch them into the flowing form of the album. The first three tracks of the album, ‘Start Somewhere’, ‘Life Balance’, and ‘First Slow’, are now available on streaming services.
Milk! Records was created to release Barnett’s debut EP, I’ve Got a Friend called Emily Ferris. Under the guidance of Barnett and partner Jen Cloher, the label went on to release over 70 albums, compilations, and collaborations, including Cloher’s album I Am the River, the River Is Me. The label gave a home to a variety of artists, from Liz Stringer to Sleater-Kinney.
The music video for the first three tracks of End of the Day, directed by film-maker Claire Marie Vogel, features Barnett walking on a mist-shrouded bush track. Milk! Records will close in 2023 and the label thanked fans for their love and support over the last decade. Barnett expressed her gratitude for being part of the incredible community and for all the amazing music released through the label.
