Beabadoobee has just dropped a stunning new single, ‘The Way Things Go’, with an accompanying ballet-inspired video. The track is a reflective acoustic number about a past relationship that has gone sour. The lyrics, written by Bea herself, express feeling of loss and disappointment, with Bea singing “Didn’t think you’d ever stoop so low / Getting with the only girl you know / A lousy route that only makes me say / ‘That’s pretty lame and that’s the way things go’ / Oh, I guess that’s just the way things go.”
The video, directed by Jacob Erland, features Bea and guitarist Jacob Bugden alongside a group of ballet dancers in an ornate and colourful room. The song was teased by Bea on social media, and has since gained a huge wave of fan support, especially on TikTok. ‘The Way Things Go’ follows her previous single ‘Glue Song’, which saw her collaborate with Clairo for a new version of the track. Her last LP was 2020’s ‘Beatopia’, which was hailed for its vibrant colours and imaginative world.
Beabadoobee recently announced a series of US shows, including two nights at Terminal 5 in New York, a stop at Lollapalooza, a performance at Outside Lands in San Francisco, and a night at LA’s Greek Theatre. She was also set to embark on a run of dates across Europe, however due to ill health she was forced to cancel the tour.
Great news for fans, as Bea recently supported Taylor Swift on the US ‘Eras’ tour, with Swift even dedicating an acoustic version of ‘Our Song’ to her.
