Lauren Mayberry, best known for her work in the band Chvrches, has announced the launch of her solo career. Mayberry revealed the news on her social media accounts, in a video that sees her walking and posing on public transportation in an orange dress with gems on her face.

Mayberry posted a caption alongside the video that expressed her gratitude for the journey she and her bandmates have been on together. She shared that the 10th anniversary of the first Chvrches album was the perfect time to embark on this new endeavor.

The singer explained that for a long time she had difficulty imagining anything outside of the band. Mayberry stated that since the age of 15, she was always in bands as a way of belonging, but that as she navigates this era of her life, she now feels the need to explore and do things on her own.

Mayberry’s solo career will be a “fun, freaky, sad, weird, and joyful pop playground,” and she is looking forward to sharing it with her fans. To that end, she has announced tour dates across the US, UK, and EU. Tickets for the tour go on sale Friday, July 21 at 10am for the US and Monday, July 24 at 10am for the UK and EU.

This is not the first time Mayberry’s Chvrches bandmates have ventured out of the group. Iain Cook teamed up with Scott Paterson, formerly of Sons & Daughters, to launch their own project, called Protection.

Chvrches’ last album was 2021’s Screen Violence, which garnered a four-star review from music critics. The band also released “Over,” a stand-alone single, earlier this year. Mayberry said the decision to release the single was made to “free [themselves] from the self-imposed album cycle rules.”

Fans of Lauren Mayberry can look forward to her solo career; her tour dates, music, and more details are sure to follow soon.
