Skegss Say Farewell to Founding Member Toby Cregan at Splendour in the Grass 2021

Skegss had a momentous performance at Splendour in the Grass 2023, with the band’s bassist Toby Cregan playing his final song with the group – ‘New York California’ from their 2016 album ‘Everyone Is Good At Something’. It was a night to remember, with the crowd in full support and Toby’s voice cracking with emotion as he said his farewell.

Toby co-founded Skegss in Byron Bay in 2014 alongside Johnny Lani, Ben Reed and former guitarist Noa Deane and has been a major part of the band for the past 10 years. He took a moment to thank the crowd for their support before leaving the stage to meet screaming fans in the front row. Toby was then joined by Dune Rats’ Brett Jansch to take over on bass.

The news of Toby’s departure in April was met with an outpouring of love and appreciation for his role in the band. Skegss have yet to announce who will be taking over on bass but have been keeping fans entertained with their music. They most recently dropped singles ‘Stranger Days’ and ‘December’ in February 2022, and performed at Groovin’ The Moo with what NME’s David James Young described as a ‘rambunctious but bittersweet set’.

Skegss were also the cover stars of NME Australia in March 2021 with the release of their album ‘Rehearsal’. NME’s Mikey Cahill said of the band, “Their live shows cause mass singalongs, scream-alongs, fainting, the works.” It is clear to see why fans of Skegss were so sad to say goodbye to Toby, but the band will continue to make waves in the music industry.
