Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose led a crowd of 50,000 in singing a heartfelt rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ to Slash, the band’s lead guitarist, as he celebrated his 58th birthday. The special moment took place at the Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece, during the band’s final show of their 2023 European leg of their world tour.
After the show, Slash took to Twitter to express his gratitude, describing it as a “perfect send off that we’ll always remember”. The band also shared a video of the heartfelt moment on their own Twitter page, captioning it, “Let’s hear it for the one and only, legendary Slash! Happy F’N’ Birthday”.
Guns N’ Roses returned to the Olympic Stadium after 30 years, having previously played there twice in 1993 and 2006. They were also headliners for Glastonbury’s 2023 edition, where Slash spoke with NME about their Pyramid Stage performance. He spoke of the show being “massive” and “fun”, although it unfortunately received an underwhelming response from the crowd, according to a three-star review from NME.
Guns N’ Roses are set to release brand new material soon, with longtime production manager Tom Mayhue revealing that the band have recorded a bunch of new songs. Mayhue went on to say that the new material is reminiscent of their classic debut album, 1987’s ‘Appetite For Destruction’.
With the release of new music on the horizon, fans of the band are eagerly awaiting what this legendary rock group has to offer.
