The iconic rock duo The Kills – comprised of Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince – have returned after seven years of absence, with the release of their brand new singles ‘New York’ and ‘LA Hex’. The band’s signature sound is evident in ‘New York’, with its sticky guitar riff and Mosshart’s instantly recognizable croon. The accompanying video, directed by Andrew Theodore Balasia, features the duo in a ringside boxing match. ‘LA Hex’ is a brighter tune, featuring layered warp trumpets and a glitchy beat. The video, also directed by Balasia, shows Mosshart and Hince in Los Angeles, atop and inside of a muscle car.

To celebrate the singles’ release, The Kills have announced two exclusive pop-up events in New York and Los Angeles. Taking place on July 27th and August 3rd respectively, the events will feature exclusive merch and a limited edition two track 7” featuring the two singles. Merch and the 7” can also be purchased on their website. Those attending could also enter a raffle for the chance to attend a private Kills DJ set after the pop-up ends.

The band’s last full release was 2016’s ‘Ash & Ice’, though they did release a B-sides/rarities collection ‘Little Bastards’ in 2020, and reissued their albums ‘Midnight Boom’ and ‘Keep On Your Mean Side’ to celebrate their 15th and 20th anniversaries. In a recent interview, Mosshart was asked about a reunion with The Dead Weather, to which she responded that it was “a happy accident”.

To further celebrate the release of their new singles, The Kills had a photo exhibit in New York and Los Angeles featuring polaroids taken by the band from 2002-2004. Fans of The Kills would be wise to keep an eye out for future announcements and experiences from the band.
