Kihyun of MONSTA X to Enlist in the Military on August 22, Shownu and Hyungwon Debut as Sub-Unit with “The Unseen”

South Korean singer Kihyun of K-pop boyband MONSTA X is set to enter the military on August 22. He will be the fourth member of the group to enlist following Shownu, Minhyuk, and Joohoney.

Kihyun released a letter on August 1, expressing his feelings about the upcoming enlistment and thanking his fans for their support. He said, “I’m grateful that there are so many people who support me. I will try to make use of this precious time that I have before I go!”

The singer also reassured his fans that he would return soon, saying “When I return, I will say, ‘I love you Monbebe’ with the members.”

Following the news of Kihyun’s enlistment, MONSTA X members Shownu and Hyungwon debuted as the group’s first sub-unit with their album ‘The Unseen’. In an interview, the duo discussed the themes of the album, which include “a ‘real me’ and there is a ‘me’ that I want to be.”

Kihyun will begin his military service on August 22 and is expected to be discharged in 2022. MONSTA X fans are sure to miss the singer while he is away, but look forward to his return.
