Acclaimed documentarian and photographer Sophia Nahli Allison has recently come forward with her experience of working with the multi-talented artist, Lizzo, revealing she left the project due to the ‘Good as Hell’ singer’s “disrespectful” behavior.
The news comes following claims of sexual harassment and an allegedly hostile work environment against the singer and rapper, raised by three of her former backup dancers. The accusations include pressuring a co-worker to touch a naked performer in an Amsterdam club, subjecting dancers to “excruciating” auditions, religious and racial harassment, false imprisonment, interference with prospective economic advantage, and more.
Allison, who won the 2017 Student Video Photographer of the Year and was nominated for an Academy Award for her short film A Love Song For Latasha, shared her story on Twitter. She wrote that she experienced “arrogant, self-centered, and unkind” behavior from Lizzo, and felt “gaslit” and “deeply hurt” but is thankful she trusted her gut and left the project.
The renowned artist and photographer captioned her post, sharing that she wanted to validate other Black women’s experiences.
Beyoncé also seemingly made her stance on the allegations clear at her show in Boston, Massachusetts. During her rendition of ‘Break My Soul (The Queens Remix)’, Beyoncé left Lizzo’s name out of the list of boundary-breaking Black female artists, and instead repeated Erykah Badu’s name four times.
Lizzo has yet to comment on the allegations raised against her. Fans of the singer and her music will be watching with anticipation as the story continues to unfold.
