Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich recently discussed the band’s tour history in Los Angeles, recalling an incident where fans had to be warned against stealing cushions from venues and throwing them around during Metallica’s sets.
Ulrich said on Conan O’Brien’s Needs A Friend podcast that the band had previously paid for 15,000 of the 16,000 seats at the Long Beach Arena due to fans taking and throwing cushions. To prevent it from happening again, the band had to go on KNAC radio station and appeal to fans to not rebel against them.
The band also ran into issues at the LA Coliseum, with fans throwing folding chairs on stage during a performance, which led to the show being stopped. This comes as incidents of fans throwing items at performers have been on the rise, with Cardi B, Bebe Rexha, Drake, P!nk, Harry Styles and Ava Max all being targeted in recent weeks.
Ulrich’s comments serve as a reminder for concertgoers to be aware of their actions and not to put performers in danger. Metallica have always had a passionate fanbase and it’s important for fans to still enjoy the show, but do so responsibly.
