It’s been nearly six months since the world lost Sarah Harding, and her Girls Aloud bandmate Nicola Roberts has opened up about the late singer’s life and how she touched the hearts of many. Speaking to Jordan Stephens on his podcast, Roberts spoke about the bond the group of five had formed throughout their career, and the impact losing Harding had on them.
Nicola praised Harding’s authenticity and how she was never afraid to be fully herself no matter the setting. Roberts shared, “She was fully who she was all the time. And for that, I always admired her.”
Recalling the group’s time together, Roberts reflected on the fact that Girls Aloud had become one of the biggest-selling girl groups of the 21st century. She said it was quite “far-fetched” as they were five normal girls with no musical background who “just somehow managed to go to the moon together”.
In June 2021, Girls Aloud celebrated the 20th anniversary of their debut single ‘Sound Of The Underground’ by reissuing the song. Last year, Roberts revealed that the group had raised more than £1 million in funds for breast cancer charities in honour of Sarah.
The loss of Sarah Harding is felt by many, but her spirit and influence will continue to live on through her music and the stories shared by those who knew her. Despite her absence, the bond between the Girls Aloud members remains strong and they continue to show their admiration and love for Harding.
