Liam Payne has been forced to put his upcoming South American tour on hold after he was hospitalised with a serious kidney infection. The former One Direction singer took to Instagram on August 25th to break the news to his fans, who had been eagerly awaiting the tour which was set to kick off in Lima, Peru on September 1st.

Payne expressed his deep regret in having to postpone the tour, saying “It’s with a heavy heart I have to tell you that we have no other choice but to postpone my upcoming tour of South America. Over the past week I’ve been in hospital with a serious kidney infection, it’s something I wouldn’t wish on anyone, and doctors orders are that I now need to rest and recover.”

He went on to apologise for having to cancel the tour and said he was “beyond excited” to come and perform for his fans. “To all of you who have bought tickets: I’m so sorry. We’re working to re-schedule the tour as soon as we possibly can, but for now we will be refunding the tickets – so please look out for updates from your point of purchase. Thanks as always for the love and support, and look forward to seeing you soon.”

In a video message, Payne revealed he had been “a little bit unwell recently” and was under the care of medical professionals to help him recover. He reassured fans that they were doing their best to reschedule the tour as soon as possible, and promised that the shows they would put on would be even better than before.

Payne’s health scare comes after he opened up about taking some time out for himself in early July. In a YouTube video, the singer shared that he had become somebody he didn’t recognise, and had gone to a facility in Louisiana to help him get back on track.

Liam Payne’s fans are no doubt wishing him a speedy recovery, and are eagerly awaiting updates on the rescheduled tour dates.
