Yard Act are no strangers to rocking out on the main stages of festivals and they did just that at Reading Festival 2023. The band opened the main stage with an energetic set, performing their hit single ‘Trench Coat Museum’ and introducing some impressive choreography into their live show.
The frontman, James Smith, was carried away by dancers–who were dressed as mannequins during the performance–at the climax of the song. The choreography was a surprise for the audience, and the band were overjoyed with the response they got.
We had the chance to chat with the band backstage after their performance and they discussed their surnames, Reading Festival, and plans for new music. Bassist Ryan Needham revealed that his surname originates from ‘need home’, while guitarist Sam Shipstone claims his is from a “really bad line of boat builders” and drummer Jay Russell’s was thought to be a sound of “people knocking about in the bushes”.
Talking about their Reading performance, frontman James Smith said that the moshers brought the set to life and that the band had a great time. He also admitted that he has found a new hobby in choreography and that it was “really nice” to be carried away by the dancers at the end of the performance.
The band also discussed their plans for new music and revealed that album number two is finished. They are expecting to release new tasters from the album between the beginning of September and the end of next summer.
Yard Act have been making waves in the music scene, and it’s clear that their live show is something special. Keep an eye out for more from the band soon!
