Taylor Swift has made a subtle reference to the infamous Kanye West VMAs incident of 2009 during her ‘Eras’ Tour, and fans have taken notice. During her show in Mexico City on Sunday night (August 27), Swift threw some harmless shade at the rapper, who had infamously interrupted her acceptance speech.
While speaking to the crowd, Swift was interrupted by their enthusiastic cheers and responded with a joke about the incident. “It’s the best way to be interrupted, by the way, just people chanting your name,” she said, smiling up at them. She then added, “It’s really the only way to be interrupted, and I would know.” This was met with an eruption of cheers from the audience.
The singer’s ‘Eras’ Tour has been filled with surprises, not least of which are the live debuts of ‘I Forgot That You Existed’ and ‘Sweet Nothing’, played during the first show in Mexico. Two days later, ‘Cornelia Street’ was also performed for the first time. In addition, Swift delighted fans at the last US tour date, held at California’s SoFi Stadium on August 9, by announcing ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version).
Swift’s tour is set to continue in November, with shows in South America. It will then visit Australia in early 2024, with European and UK dates planned for the spring/summer of next year. North American dates will take place later in the year.
Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras’ Tour has been a huge success, and fans have been thrilled by her references to her past as well as the new surprises she has in store for them.
