Korean-based girl group XG have revealed the inspirations behind their music, including some of the biggest names in R&B and Hip-Hop. In a new interview with Apple Music, the seven-member girl group discussed their sound and upcoming debut EP ‘New DNA’. Chisa, one of the vocalists, explained how the group is “based on R&B and Hip-hop, but we try to add a bit of XG originality”. They also revealed some of their key influences, including Beyoncé, Rihanna, H.E.R and SZA, and how these artists have had a major impact on their music.

The upcoming EP promises to be an exciting release, with each track exploring a different genre. XG have revealed that the subject matter of the songs will centre around the themes of arrival, evolution, and exploration. Cocona, the group’s rapper, described the EP as a journey through the XG world, and encouraged listeners to enjoy the songs and accompanying music videos to the fullest.

The release of ‘New DNA’ will mark almost a year since the group dropped their last comeback in January, which included dual singles ‘Shooting Star’ and ‘Left Right’. Both tracks were later remixed, with appearances from Rico Nasty, and GOT7’s Jackson Wang and Ciara. ‘New DNA’ is set to be released on September 27 and is sure to be a hit with XG’s fans. The EP is described as a declaration of being a ‘new species’, free from conventions and limitations, and will be a perfect introduction to the group’s unique sound.
