Paul McCartney Launches Appeal to Find His Missing Höfner Bass Guitar

Paul McCartney is on a mission to find his original Höfner bass guitar that he bought back in 1961 and has been missing since 1969. The search appeal has been launched to find the most important bass in history, and people from all over the world have already got in touch with the organisers of the project.

Nick Wass, the head of Höfner, has partnered with journalists Scott and Naomi Jones in this mission to trace the bass. It was McCartney himself who asked Wass about the guitar when they had a conversation, which kickstarted the search. According to The Lost Bass Project, the missing Höfner 500/1 Violin Bass was heard on the Beatles’ songs ‘Love Me Do’, ‘She Loves You’, and ‘Twist and Shout’.

It was after watching McCartney headline Glastonbury last year that Scott first became interested in finding the guitar’s whereabouts. Since the project launched, the team has already received hundreds of emails with two in particular standing out because of the information they provided. It is possible that someone owns the bass without realising its significance.

The team has taken inspiration from the John Lennon acoustic guitar, which was stolen from a Beatles Christmas show in 1963 and was recovered 51 years later in America. Similarly, Steve Vai’s long-lost ‘Swiss Cheese’ guitar was recovered 36 years after its disappearance.

The search to find Paul McCartney’s original Höfner bass guitar is still ongoing and people are being urged to follow the trail and help trace the bass. The Lost Bass Project has asked fans to visit their website if they have any information about the guitar, as it could help the team get one step closer to reuniting McCartney with his long-lost bass.
