Vince Clarke, the celebrated songwriter behind iconic bands such as Erasure, Yazoo and Depeche Mode, has announced details of his first solo album, titled ‘Songs Of Silence’. Set to be released on November 17 via Mute Records, the upcoming instrumental album sees the award-winning songwriter explore the creative potential of the Eurorack modular synthesiser format.
The 10-track album showcases Clarke’s captivating experimentation with ambient beauty and genre-less soundscapes. He has even unveiled a lead single off the upcoming album, titled ‘The Lamentations Of Jeremiah’, which is accompanied by a stunning visual accompaniment directed by Turkish-born, NY-based portrait photographer Ebru Yildiz.
Speaking on the album, the songwriter said that he could have gone “on forever”, enjoying the creative process of producing the record. He also explained that, while using the modular format of Eurorack, he followed two rules: creating the sounds for the album solely with the synthesiser, and ensuring that every song was centred around one particular key.
When talking about the production of the album, Clarke said: “The resultant album’s mood of synth-generated, cosmic remoteness is interrupted by stark interventions, reminders of the human hand at work amid this machinery.” The record features relentless sequencer patterns, gradual accelerations, Moog-style drones, glistening droplets of synth, and burgeoning swells of processed guitars.
Vince Clarke’s ‘Songs Of Silence’ is now available for pre-order, and the full tracklist is as follows: ‘Cathedral’, ‘White Rabbit’, ‘Passage’, ‘Imminent’, ‘Red Planet’, ‘The Lamentations of Jeremiah’, ‘Mitosis’, ‘Blackleg’, ‘Scarper’ and ‘Last Transmission’. Fans of the artist can expect a captivating album featuring a range of ambient sounds and genres.
