Legendary British rock band Keane are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album ‘Hopes And Fears’ with a massive world tour and a special reissue. Frontman Tom Chaplin chatted with us about the band’s past, present, and future.

The album, which changed the lives of the band members forever, will be available to fans in a special reissue on May 10, 2024 – 20 years to the exact date of its original release. The same night, Keane will be taking the stage of The O2 in London, as part of the band’s UK and Irish leg of the anniversary tour. Excitingly, they will be joined by The Lathums as special guests.

Chaplin recalls the time leading up the release of the album. He says it was a slow learning curve for the band, as they had to take their time out of the spotlight to find their voice organically. The frontman also remembers the difficult departure of founding guitarist Dominic Scott, which pushed the band to try new things in the studio.

The band experimented with producer James Sanger in a dilapidated French mansion, and Chaplin recalls him as the first one to recognize the potential of their songs. With the help of Sanger, the group of three found their voice and began to craft the tracks that would end up on ‘Hopes And Fears’.

The album has gone on to become an unprecedented success, and has sold millions of copies worldwide. It is the ninth best-selling album of the 21st century in the UK. Chaplin admits to still feeling connected to the songs and often finding new ways to interpret them.

The band are still in the process of working out the set list and plans for the show, but Chaplin is keen on offering fans the full album experience. He has attended several anniversary shows and knows how special it is for fans to hear an album in its entirety.

Tickets for the ‘Hopes And Fears’ tour will go on sale on Friday, September 15, and fans can purchase them here for UK and US shows. Keane will be touring across the globe, kicking off the tour in Leeds, UK in May 2023, followed by stops in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Amsterdam, Cologne, Brussels, Paris, Berkeley, Los Angeles, San Diego, Salt Lake City, Denver, Dallas, Austin, Atlanta, Nashville, Minneapolis, Chicago, Toronto, Philadelphia, Boston, and New York.
