Last night (September 9) Phoenix joined forces with special guest Clairo onstage in New York City for one of the most memorable performances of the year. The two artists teamed up for a remixed version of the song ‘After Midnight’ which was featured on Phoenix’s 2022 album ‘Alpha Zulu’.
The performance was part of Beck and Phoenix’s 2023 ‘Summer Odyssey’ tour across North America. The tour kicked off in Seattle, Washington in August and has been making stops in cities such as Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Houston, Boston, and New York. The tour ends tonight (September 10) in Columbia, Maryland.
The stage was set with staggered screens that framed the stage and the band, creating a mesmerizing visual that wowed the audience. During the song ‘Entertainment’, Phoenix recreated the Palace of Versailles and its Hall of Mirrors with chandeliers twinkling amid pounding keyboard riffs. Other clever effects, such as bold colors gliding across the stage and a beautiful firework exploding, also helped to create a truly magical performance.
The ‘Summer Odyssey’ tour has featured support from Japanese Breakfast, Jenny Lewis, and Weyes Blood, and Beck and Phoenix released the single ‘Odyssey’ in anticipation of the tour. Fans who were lucky enough to attend the show in London last November described the gig as a “staggering assault on the senses”.
It’s clear that the collaboration between Phoenix and Clairo was one of the highlights of the ‘Summer Odyssey’ tour. Fans of both artists were certainly treated to a one-of-a-kind performance that they won’t soon forget.
