“Bleachers Return With Feel-Good Single ‘Modern Girl’, Featuring Bright Americana Beats”

Bleachers have returned with their latest single ‘Modern Girl’, marking their first release since their 2021 album ‘Take The Sadness Out Of Yesterday’. The track, which is now available on Dirty Hit, the band’s new label home, is a feel-good song featuring bright Americana beats and catchy lyrics about “going out and shaking ass”.

The video for the track, directed by Alex Lockett, sees the band having a fun jam session in a vintage-style recording studio, reminiscent of the 1984 classic Footloose. The single is also featured on the final season of Netflix’s Sex Education series, and will be part of the band’s forthcoming album.

Jack Antonoff and the rest of the Bleachers team have been working with some of the biggest names in pop music, including Taylor Swift, The 1975, Lana Del Rey and more. They recently announced their move to Jamie Oborne’s independent label Dirty Hit, which is also home to Wolf Alice, Beabadoobee and Rina Sawayama. Antonoff has also signed a global agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group, and is managed by Oborne as part of a new joint venture.

In a review of ‘Take The Sadness Out Of Yesterday’, NME praised the record for capturing various sentiments, from the aftermath of Antonoff’s 2018 break-up with actor-director Lena Dunham, to the feeling of wanting to break free from his native New Jersey, to the intense longing to play with his band during the pandemic. They said that while it might not leave listeners feeling as euphoric as his past releases, it still has a lingering sensation that highlights the power of Antonoff’s immersive songwriting.
