Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney fans can rejoice as the two legendary musicians are teaming up for The Rolling Stones’ upcoming album ‘Hackney Diamonds’. The iconic rockers announced their 24th studio record on September 6 and have since shared its lead single, ‘Angry’. Eighteen years after their last original material, the band is set to release their newest album on October 20.
The recording of ‘Bite My Head Off’ saw McCartney join the band for a session. Jagger recently revealed to Q on CBC how the collaboration came about. According to the frontman, the Beatles legend had been in LA when they started recording and producer Andrew Watt had the idea to get McCartney to play bass on the punk tune. Jagger said: “I didn’t know how it was gonna work out, but he really rocked it and he loved doing it. He said, ‘It’s great playing with a band! Really enjoyable playing with a band’.”
The two bands have had a long-standing rivalry, but Jagger has always been friendly with McCartney. “John [Lennon] was a close friend of mine. He was very acerbic and funny and witty and intelligent and everything. But I also knew Paul who’s a different kind of personality. I’ve always been friends with him,” he said.
The Stones’ last album was 2016’s blues covers LP ‘Blue & Lonesome’. Jagger has also confirmed that the band is already working on their next full-length record. Fans should be excited for the upcoming release of ‘Hackney Diamonds’ as it will feature collaborations with Lady Gaga, Elton John and Stevie Wonder, as well as the special duet between Jagger and McCartney.
