Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith recently accepted a challenge from Drumeo to play Thirty Seconds To Mars’ ‘The Kill’ without ever having heard it before. To the amazement of onlookers, Smith flawlessly nailed the song – even though he had no clue who the artist was. After he finished, Smith asked if it was My Chemical Romance or “some kind of emo thing.” Though he was unfamiliar with the song, Smith recognized the band’s frontman, Jared Leto, and remembered that Jared’s brother Shannon was the drummer.
Thirty Seconds To Mars recently put out a new album – ‘It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day’ – that features singles ‘Seasons’, ‘Get Up Kid’, ‘Stuck’, and ‘Life Is Beautiful’. Meanwhile, Chad Smith’s own band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, made headlines when WWE Hall of Famer X-Pac revealed that he had asked them to produce his wrestling theme song but ended up going with Uncle Kracker instead. X-Pac said that WWE was “pretty hot” at the time and that he chose Uncle Kracker because he knew him personally.
Chad Smith’s performance of Thirty Seconds To Mars’ ‘The Kill’ is an impressive reminder of the drummer’s talent and skill. Fans of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and of Thirty Seconds To Mars are sure to be excited to see what else each artist has to offer in the coming months.
