The iconic British rockers, The Libertines, have finally released their highly-anticipated fourth album, ‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade’, as well as the first single ‘Run Run Run’. The record is a witty and reflective take on their two-decade career and is set to be one of the most exciting releases of the year.
The band’s frontman, Carl Barat, has described the first single as being “about being trapped, and trying to escape your dismal life, a bit like the man in Bukowski’s Post Office.” He goes on to say, “The worst thing for The Libertines would be to get stuck in a ‘Run-run-run’ rut – constantly trying to relive our past.”
The 11-track album was recorded in just four weeks at the band’s own studio, The Albion Rooms, in Margate, England. Additional production and mixing was done by Dan Grech-Marguerat (Lana Del Rey/Liam Gallagher/Paul McCartney) and Dimitri Tikovoï (The Horrors/Charli XCX/Becky Hill) at La Ferme de Gestein Studios in Normandy.
The record title is inspired by Erich Maria Remarque’s anti-war novel, as well as the band’s hotel, studio, restaurant and bar in Margate. The sleeve art features characters from the world of faded seaside glamour.
Pete Doherty, one of the band’s founding members, said: “We’re over the moon, the ball is in the back of the net, and I’m chuffed for the lads! We’re really connected as a band and now we can add these songs to the setlist as there are some bangers in there.”
Fans who pre-order the album will be offered the chance to purchase tickets for the intimate shows at the 500-capacity Lido in Margate on December 9 and 10, as well as VIP after party tickets at The Albion Rooms and Justine’s nightclub.
The Libertines’ ‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade’ will be available on CD, deluxe CD, 12” vinyl in limited edition coloured variants, deluxe double vinyl cassette and digital download on March 8.
