“Björk’s Iconic White Swan Dress Inspires Halloween Costume”

Icelandic singer Björk has inspired fans worldwide with her iconic fashion moments, but this Halloween one fan took her creativity to the next level. Visual artist and drag queen Untitled Queen shared a video of her friend Lucy Balls, who crafted a costume that pays homage to the white swan dress Björk wore in 2001.

The dress, designed by Marjan Pejoski, was famously featured on the cover of her album Vespertine and made a statement at the 2001 Academy Awards red carpet, where she was nominated for Best Original Song (‘I’ve Seen It All’ from Dancer In The Dark).

Lucy Balls’ costume features the same white swan draped around the neck, but in a unique twist, it was Björk herself that was draped around the neck of the swan. The costume quickly went viral with Untitled Queen proudly tweeting a video of her friend, captioned with, “My bestie Lucy Balls winning Halloween. She made her costume: a swan wearing Bjork wearing a swan.”

The creative take on the swan dress was well-received by fans of the singer, who have praised the costume for its ingenuity. Though it took over two decades for the dress to take on a new form, Björk’s iconic design remains as relevant and impactful as ever.

Recently, the singer spoke to NME about her struggles to be taken seriously in the media: “I was always quite offended by how often Kate Bush was written about like she was insane or a crazy witch – or me being a crazy elf,” she said.

More recently, Björk released a song with Spanish superstar Rosalía to “fight fish farming in Iceland.” In a statement about the release, she noted the importance of preserving Icelandic nature: “Iceland has the biggest untouched nature in Europe and still today it has its sheep roaming free in the mountains in the summers,” she said.

This Halloween, Björk has once again proved her timelessness as an artist and her inspiring influence to fans around the world.
