Lauryn Hill has been forced to cancel her second show in a week due to ongoing vocal issues. The R&B singer was due to perform in Philadelphia on October 22, but had to postpone the date on doctor’s orders. This was followed by a further announcement that her concert in Forth Worth, Texas on October 30 had been cancelled.
In a statement, Hill said she had been “doing her best to overcome a serious case of vocal strain/injury over the past week or so”, but that she had “fought through the last couple shows, pushing her voice, and masking the injury with medication.” She went on to explain that this was not a safe or sustainable way to continue performing and that she needed to rest her voice in order to continue the tour.
The cancelled shows were part of a North American tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Grammy-winning R&B singer’s iconic debut solo album ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’. The tour is being co-headlined by Hill’s former band, the Fugees, and currently has four dates remaining, in Denver, Los Angeles, Oakland and Seattle.
Hill recently reunited with the Fugees as part of her performance at The Roots Picnic in June. The band had previously cancelled their 25th anniversary tour in January 2022, with reports suggesting that the decision was due to legal issues surrounding band member Pras Michel.
Fans of Hill and the Fugees can still get to see them together on stage this year, with the remaining tour dates set to offer a unique chance to experience the music of two living legends in the R&B and hip hop genres.
