On November 1 last year, Migos rapper Takeoff was tragically shot dead in an alleged dice game gone wrong in Houston, Texas. The 28-year-old, whose real name was Kirsnick Khari Ball, had been an integral part of the chart-topping hip hop trio, leaving his bandmates Offset and Quavo heartbroken.
To commemorate the first anniversary of Takeoff’s death, Offset and Quavo paid tribute to their late friend on their social media pages. On his Instagram page, Offset posted a black-and-white video featuring a remix of Takeoff’s 2018 solo track, ‘Last Memory’ along with footage of the rapper performing. Along with the video, Offset wrote: “The times we spent is priceless, what we built in this game they never wanted to give us our flowers we influenced the world. I love you Take, you still here with us I just know you are!!!! Migo 4Life!!!!!!”
Quavo shared an image of Takeoff smiling and wearing dark sunglasses on his Instagram page, accompanied with the caption: “Can’t forget it won’t Forget It NEVER Forget it.”
The two rappers showed their solidarity by performing together for the first time since Takeoff’s death at the 2023 BET Awards over the summer. Quavo also released new album ‘Rocket Power’ which he described as “my therapy” following the death of Takeoff, while Offset released his first solo album since Takeoff’s passing, ‘Set It Off’.
Takeoff’s tragic death has left a huge hole in the hearts of his bandmates and fans alike, and Offset and Quavo’s tributes are a beautiful way to remember the rapper and the legacy he left behind.
