Legendary hip-hop artist Lauryn Hill has recently addressed her fans who have been critical of her missing shows, expressing her gratitude for being able to make it on stage every night.
The former Fugees singer is currently on tour around North America celebrating the 25th anniversary of her Grammy-winning debut solo album ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’, but has had to cancel or postpone multiple shows due to an ongoing vocal injury.
Hill recently defended herself against criticism at a show in Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on November 4, proclaiming “Yo, y’all lucky I make it on this stage every night! I don’t do it because they let me do it, I do it because I stand here in the name of god.”
She had previously issued a statement after cancelling the Fort Worth show, explaining that “I fought through the last couple shows, pushing my voice, and masking the injury with medication. This isn’t safe or sustainable. I woke up this morning hoping to have enough voice to get through tonight, but I can barely talk let alone sing or rap.”
Hill’s tour includes two remaining dates in Oakland on November 7 and Seattle on November 9. This tour follows her surprise reunion with her Fugees bandmates Pras Michel and Wyclef Jean back in June as part of The Roots’ festival The Roots Picnic. The hip-hop group had previously cancelled their 25th anniversary tour in January 2022 due to the COVID pandemic and Michel’s involvement in a billion-dollar Malaysian money laundering scheme.
The performance was backed by The Roots and included six tracks including ‘Killing Me Softly’, ‘Ready Or Not’ and ‘Zealots’. Fans of the legendary artist are eager to see what Hill has in store for the remainder of her tour.
