Megan Thee Stallion has made a huge impression on the music world this year with her YouTube debut as a solo female hip-hop artist. On Friday (November 3), the rap star dropped her newest single ‘Cobra’, which saw her “shedding” her past. After announcing she had parted ways with her former label after a long legal dispute, the video for the single quickly racked up over 2.15 million views in 24 hours, making it the biggest YouTube debut of the year for a solo female hip-hop artist.

The single beat out fellow artists Doja Cat’s ‘Demons’ (2 million) and Ice Spice’s ‘Deli’ (1.85 million) for the title, and also earned over 1 million streams on Spotify within the same time frame. ‘Cobra’ is Megan’s latest offering after her collaboration with Cardi B for ‘Bongos’ and the song ‘Out Alpha The Alpha’ written for the upcoming A24 film Dicks: The Musical.

The Houston rapper’s last album, 2022’s ‘Traumazine’, was praised by NME, with the magazine awarding the album four stars. The review described the record’s “deep cuts” as showing Megan Thee Stallion’s “broad musicality”, and asserted that she “will clearly leave a lasting impression on rap music forever”.

In addition to her music career, Megan Thee Stallion recently launched a mental health platform called Seize The Awkward. She shared a video to Instagram explaining her mission, saying: “Y’all, it’s okay to not be okay. Reach out to a friend if you see them going through it. No matter who you are, being vulnerable is what makes us whole.” With her impressive music career and her dedication to helping others, Megan Thee Stallion is an unstoppable force in the hip-hop game.
