Reneé Rapp and Kesha recently shared the stage in Brooklyn for a magical performance. During Rapp’s tour of her album ‘Snow Angel’, the North Carolinian singer teamed up with pop star Kesha to perform her 2009 hit ‘Your Love Is My Drug’. The reaction of the crowd was electric as they were taken on a journey of cathartic pop.
Rapp was very emotional in the moment, later taking to Instagram to express her gratitude for Kesha. She wrote about how her older cousin had introduced her to Kesha when she was 9, and how it changed the game for her. She described the pop star as “unapologetically perfect”.
Kesha responded to the post with her own words of support, saying she was “so proud” of Rapp. She shared a photo of the two hugging with the caption “your love is my drug”.
Kesha released her album ‘Gag Order’ in 2022, an album that addressed the aftermath of her legal battle with Dr Luke claiming he sexually assaulted her (which Dr Luke has denied). NME gave the album a three-star rating, praising her for finding her voice.
Rapp also spoke to NME this year about her experiences writing about her sexuality in a room of straight men. She said that she felt like she had more knowledge than them, understanding the experience better than they ever could.
The collaboration between Reneé Rapp and Kesha is a powerful example of female artists coming together to create something incredible. The performance was a reminder that music is a force that brings people together, no matter what.
