Ten-year-old Nandi Bushell has been making waves in the music industry after her online drum battles with Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl. Now, she has taken her talents to a new level, performing in her first television acting role alongside legendary Queen guitarist Brian May.
The BBC children’s comedy series Andy and the Band follows a fictional rock band named Andy and the Odd Socks on their adventures around Planet Rock. In the show, the Godfather of Rock (May) is concerned with the lack of rock music coming from Earth, and his goddaughter Emerald (Bushell) sets off to Earth to help. The series culminates in a Battle of the Bands competition with Bushell and May teaming up.
Bushell shared a video of her jam session with May, and commented on her first acting experience, “I have never performed a speaking acting role before so playing Emerald in Andy and the Band was the perfect first role for me. Working with Brian May was a dream come true! He let me play his guitar and gave me a few lessons when we were on set and made me feel really special.”
Bushell is no stranger to the music world. Since the age of five, she has been playing drums, and has posted hundreds of videos of her covering songs from Nirvana, Metallica, and, of course, Queen. Bushell has also released several original songs, such as ‘The Shadows’, ‘Gods and Unicorns’, and ‘Into the Abyss’.
In honor of Halloween, Bushell released a cover of Slipknot’s 2008 hit ‘Psychosocial’ on her YouTube channel. The video shows Bushell dressed as a devil, playing the classic metal anthem with enthusiasm. “Being a Slipknot #maggot is not just for #halloween but for #life!” Bushell wrote in the video description.
With her impressive covers, original songs, and acting debut, Bushell is proving that anything is possible with a little bit of dedication and hard work.
