Guitarist Tom Morello has made a statement about the ongoing conflict in Israel and Gaza, emphasizing that there is “no room for Anti-Semitism” when discussing the war crimes in Gaza. The Rage Against The Machine star took to his official Twitter page to express his views on the situation.
“It is important to remember that the horrific war crimes in Gaza are not being committed by “the Jews”, but rather by a particular right-wing Israeli administration,” Morello wrote. He added that many brave Jews in Israel and abroad are condemning the violence, and that the fight is against oppression, not a particular group of people.
This is not the first time the musician has used his platform to speak out about the war. Last month, Morello urged the condemnation of harm to all children, regardless of their identity, after actress Jamie Lee Curtis deleted a photo of Palestinians.
The death toll in the conflict has reached 11,240 Palestinians and over 1,200 killed in Israel, according to Al Jazeera. The Rage Against The Machine star previously accepted the band’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction on November 3, and was seen holding a note that read “Ceasefire” backstage.
In addition to Morello’s views, other musicians such as Enter Shikari, The Last Dinner Party, Architects and more have signed an open letter calling for a ceasefire. Macklemore also spoke at a pro-Palestine rally, describing the conflict as a “genocide”, while Dua Lipa, Killer Mike, Michael Stipe and more wrote an open letter to President Biden demanding an immediate de-escalation. Benefits also shared a powerful statement regarding the war and Armistice Day.
Tom Morello hopes to inspire others to “change the world” with his music, and is using his platform to call for the end of the violence in Israel and Gaza.
