Legendary soul singer Reverend Al Green has returned with a stunning new rendition of Lou Reed’s iconic track ‘Perfect Day’. The track is the first new music the American singer-songwriter, pastor and record producer has released in five years, and marks a reunion with the Hi Rhythm Section.
The 77-year-old musician has given the classic a special spin, taken from the 1972 album ‘Transformer’. Joining Al Green on the track is British alternative R&B singer RAYE, providing warm soulful backing vocals throughout.
The cover of ‘Perfect Day’ is sure to have fans of the artist’s music thrilled, as it follows his cover of Freddy Fender’s ‘Before the Next Teardrop Falls’ which he worked on in 2018 and shared two years later.
In addition, Reverend Al Green has also announced two new live performances set to take place later this year. The first show will be held at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Michigan on November 24, and the second will take place in The Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri the following day. Tickets for the performances will be available to purchase this Friday (August 25).
The latest cover is the first new music from Reverend Al Green since his album ‘Lay It Down’ in 2008, which was produced by Questlove. Since then, Green has shared a series of compilation albums, including a ‘Greatest Hits’ record in 2009.
