Rising star Fousheé and Steve Lacy, the guitar maestro, have opened up about their creative relationship and how their collaboration on the 2022 single ‘Sunshine’ came to be.

The two artists, who have both been on tour together and shared the stage at Reading Festival 2023 this weekend, spoke of their friendship and admiration for each other’s work. Fousheé shared that Lacy is someone she can rely on and talk to about anything, and their conversations gave rise to their musical collaboration.

The singer-songwriter pointed out that her strength lies in her lyric-writing and melodies, while Lacy is a “musical genius” who can play a variety of instruments and create melodies. She described their creative process as a “ping-pong match”, where they both feed off each other’s ideas and as a result, can create something unique.

Fousheé also revealed that she is already thinking of concepts for her next project, which she wants to include themes of reconnecting with roots, relationships, and personal growth.

At Reading Festival, Lacy closed the weekend with an impressive show, and NME praised him as he enters his “imperial phase”.
