“Post Malone and Bob Dylan’s Unreleased Collaboration: What Could Have Been”

Bob Dylan is one of the most iconic folk singers in history, and according to producer Michael Cash, he was even willing to lend his unused lyrics to Post Malone for a potential collaboration. Cash revealed this during an interview with Rolling Stone, in which he discussed his project ‘The Attic MP3s’.

Cash’s project would have been a spin on the 2014 Bob Dylan tribute album ‘Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes’, which featured songs created from Dylan’s unused lyrics. Cash’s version was to feature performances from Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole and Post Malone.

The lyrics Dylan sent to Malone were from an uncovered and unreleased song, ‘Be Not Deceived’, which Cash described as being “about a loss of innocence and what people are going through”. When Malone read the lyrics, he was reportedly “in tears”.

The pair had made significant progress on the song, with Cash estimating that they had completed around 40 per cent of it when Malone had to leave the studio. Unfortunately, the song was never finished and Dylan’s team retracted the rights to the lyrics.

Now, Post Malone has released his latest album ‘Austin’, which received a four-star rating from NME and was praised for showing fans a more personal side to him. While the Bob Dylan collaboration will likely never be released, it is clear that the pair’s creativity together could have created something truly special.
