Irish singer-songwriter Niall Horan paid his respects to the late Sinéad O’Connor this weekend, performing a heartfelt version of her classic song ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’.

Horan took the stage at Electric Picnic festival in Stradbally, County Laois on Friday, September 1, his first Irish show in five years. After six songs, he dedicated a cover of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ to O’Connor, prompting a passionate singalong from the audience.

“I can’t even put into words how much this means to me for being here tonight,” Horan said of the show. He then transitioned into ‘Story Of My Life’ halfway through his performance.

Social media posts show that fans were moved by Horan’s tribute, with one user tweeting “Niall Horan cantando Nothing Compares 2 U! (20)©️ PartyWhelan #NiallElectricPicnic #NiallHoranTheFestivals”.

Since O’Connor’s death in July of 2023, a number of artists have paid tribute with renditions of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’. Fall Out Boy covered the song during a recent gig, while Brandi Carlile and P!nk performed it in Cincinatti, Ohio.

Fellow musicians like Garbage, Billy Corgan and Michael Stipe have also paid tribute to the singer, as did Bob Geldof and Bono, who attended her Dublin funeral last month. O’Connor’s children and family have since thanked fans for their “outpouring of love” after her death in a statement shared last week.

Horan’s ‘The Show’ tour is set to kick off in November of 2023, with additional dates added for the UK and Ireland.
