Priscilla Presley, the former wife of the late rock and roll king Elvis Presley, has recently made a statement about their relationship when they first met. According to Priscilla, when she was only 14 years old and Elvis was 24, they never had a physical relationship.
Speaking at a press conference at the Venice Film Festival for the premiere of Sofia Coppola’s new biopic, Priscilla, Presley said that it was not a physical relationship that Elvis and she shared, but a connection of the heart. The late icon opened up to Priscilla about his fears, hopes, and his grief due to the loss of his mother. It was this connection that drew them together.
In her own words, Priscilla said that people often think that the 10 year age gap between them was the reason for their relationship, but that wasn’t the case. She added that Elvis was respectful of her being only 14 and that she never told anyone she was seeing him while in school.
The couple married in 1967 when Priscilla was 21, and then separated in 1972. The biopic, which takes inspiration from Priscilla’s 1985 autobiography, Elvis and Me, stars American actor Cailee Spaeny as the titular character and Jacob Elordi as Elvis. It will receive its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on October 9, and will be released in cinemas worldwide on January 1, 2024.
