Mysterious masked collective Sleep Token have warned fans about those masquerading as members of the band in order to exploit their community.
Since releasing their third album ‘Take Me Back To Eden’ earlier this year, the British alt-metal group have gone on to become a popular fixture in the rock and metal scene, with their single ‘The Summoning’ going viral in January. They also recently announced some of their biggest live shows to date, including a sold-out slot at London’s Wembley Arena in December.
However, with the increased popularity has come reports of some taking advantage of the band’s anonymity. In a statement on their now-expired Instagram Stories, Sleep Token urged fans to be aware of potential scams involving fake “band members”, and to report anyone who approaches them with similar claims.
Last month, Sleep Token kicked off their warm-up show for the London gig by appearing at this year’s Reading & Leeds festival. NME described their performance as the “most devoted fans we’ve seen at the festival to date”, and noted that it was “just a glimpse of the band reaching the peak of their powers”.
The band’s upcoming tour will take them across the US until mid-October, before they head to Europe for numerous shows, including their biggest-ever headline performance at the OVO arena on December 16. With more and more fans eager to get a glimpse of the Sleep Token collective, the band have urged caution against those pretending to be members for their own gain.
