Jockstrap, the acclaimed art-pop duo comprising of Georgia Ellery and Taylor Skye, lit up the red carpet at the 2023 Mercury Prize Awards with their enthusiasm for Irish folk band Lankum and news of an upcoming collaboration.
The two recently took part in a memorable performance at Hammersmith’s Eventim Apollo and discussed the response to their debut album ‘I Love You Jennifer B’ and the exciting new track set for release next week. Though they were coy about who their mystery collaborator may be, they did hint that the artist in question is a rising star in the music industry.
The duo also spoke of their joy at the positive reception during their live shows, including opening for Blur at their historic Wembley Stadium event.
“We’ve been very lucky – people singing along and having a great time. It’s like being in a game, it’s weird [to play] in this crazy stadium!” Skye said.
Elsewhere in the interview, the pair expressed their admiration for fellow Mercury Prize nominees, including Dave and Weyes Blood, as well as Loyle Carner, Raye, Young Fathers, Arctic Monkeys, Fred Again.., Shygirl and Jessie Ware.
Ultimately, it was British jazz band Ezra Collective who took home the coveted award. When asked about their victory, they spoke about what it meant to be representing the jazz community at the ceremony.
Jockstrap are a rising star in the music industry, and have already made a huge cultural impact with their stunning debut album. We can’t wait to hear what their upcoming collaboration has in store.
