Robert Trujillo, the bassist of Metallica, recently reunited with his former band Suicidal Tendencies for a special performance at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The performance marked the rescheduled date after the original show was postponed due to James Hetfield’s diagnosis of COVID-19.

Trujillo was joined by his son Tye Trujillo, who is currently filling in for the band’s touring bassist Roberto ‘Ra’ Díaz. Together, the two performed a rendition of the classic ‘I Saw Your Mommy…’ from Suicidal Tendencies’ self-titled debut album (1983). Other songs included ‘You Can’t Bring Me Down’, ‘Subliminal’ and ‘Send Me Your Money’, among others.

The reunion was in place of Ice Nine Kills, who dropped out of support act in light of the show’s postponement. Before joining Metallica in 2003, Trujillo was the bassist for Suicidal Tendencies from 1989 to 1995. His son, Tye Trujillo, has been a part of the band sporadically since 2019 and made his live debut with Korn in 2017.

The performance was a part of Metallica’s ongoing M72 World Tour, which is in support of their eleventh album ‘72 Seasons’. The album was met with critical acclaim, with NME praising its “sharp, spiky metal” and noting that Metallica are still capable of sticking it where the sun doesn’t shine.

For fans of metal, this reunion was a special and unexpected treat. It’s always exciting to see musicians who have been part of different bands come together for a show, and this one was certainly no exception.
