Colombian reggaeton superstar J Balvin and English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran have confirmed that a collaborative album is in the works.

In a recent cover story with Nylon, Balvin opened up about the new EDM-inspired record and their organic friendship. “We met; we had coffee, we’d run into each other at the same gym, at the hotel,” Balvin said. “[The record]’s going to be another album that will offer a lot to talk about because it’s like merging two worlds.”

Balvin and Sheeran recently released two singles, ‘Sigue’ and ‘Forever My Love’, to much acclaim. Ahead of the release, the pair posted a video and photo of them in the studio to social media. On their collaboration, Balvin said: “We drink coffee, talk about life and have a chimba vibe, creat[ing a] genuine friendship [by] talking from the simplest things to how to be a parent hehe.”

The pair even went as far as Sheeran learning Spanish for the songs. Balvin described it as “a proper challenge” that was “so much fun”.

Additionally, Balvin is set to release his sixth studio album this year. His 2021 album ‘JOSE’ was met with a lot of praise, and his new album will similarly be “easy to digest” according to the star. “The flows, the deliveries — all of this is super updated,” Balvin said.

Balvin recently released his second single from ‘José’, ‘Dientes’, which samples Usher’s ‘Yeah!’ and features the Atlanta singer and DJ Khaled. It was produced by Mura Masa, Fred Ball, DJ Luian, Mambo Kingz, Tainy, and Michael Brun.

Meanwhile, Sheeran will release his second album of 2021 ‘Autumn Variations’ next week. He revealed that he recorded a live version of the album by surprising fans and performing in their houses.

The upcoming collaborative album from Balvin and Sheeran is sure to be an exciting release for fans of both artists. It’s a merging of two different worlds, and a friendship based on genuine conversations. This is sure to be an album to remember.
