MGMT have been hinting at the release of a new album, and this week, fans got a glimpse of a possible title after Andrew VanWyngarden posted a photo of a test pressing on the band’s subreddit. The image, which included a banana and the text “elf of soils”, has Reddit users speculating that it could be an anagram of the upcoming album title.
The New York based duo last released an album with 2018’s ‘Little Dark Age’, and have been teasing a “fancy new album” with a 2023 release since January of this year. They’ve made further appearances through feature spot’s on The Avalanches’ album ‘We Will Always Love You’ and ColaBoyy’s track ‘Kid Born In Space’.
VanWyngarden has also shared new music under his solo moniker Gentle Dom, covered Tones and I’s global smash ‘Dance Monkey’, and remixed Metronomy and Club Intl. Last August, he told fans on Reddit that the band had been busy working on the new album.
MGMT’s upcoming album is sure to be packed with surprises and new music and fans can’t wait to hear what’s in store. While a 2023 release date is still a ways away, it won’t be long before we get to hear the fruits of their labor.
