Corey Taylor, the frontman of Slipknot and Stone Sour, has opened up about his first meeting with Black Sabbath legend Ozzy Osbourne. Taylor recently released his second solo album CMF2, and in a recent interview with Classic Rock magazine, he reflected on how his band got on the line-up at Ozzfest in 1999.
The Slipknot singer said that his band got onto the festival due to being Osbourne’s son Jack’s favorite band. Taylor then went on to recall his first meeting with The Prince Of Darkness.
“I was sitting at a table with Jack and Kelly and Sharon,” Taylor said. “All of sudden, Ozzy comes bounding up: ‘Sharon, can you help me with my earrings?’ And Sharon goes, ‘Ozzy, this is one of the members of Slipknot, it’s Corey, he’s the singer.’”
Taylor went on to say that Osbourne then asked to join Slipknot as the tenth member. The singer said he was in awe of Osbourne and felt like he was meeting Superman. Taylor also opened up about meeting his musical heroes, including Metallica. He said that he and the members of Slipknot felt so in awe of the band that all they could do was raid their food and drink.
Taylor also opened up about his admiration for the Kaiser Chiefs’ 2005 album ‘Employment’. He said the album inspired him to write and that he has been threatening to do a cover of ‘Modern Way’ for a long time.
Recently, the Slipknot singer revealed that he began releasing solo music as he felt he wasn’t getting the credit he deserved for writing with his two bands. Osbourne, meanwhile, has recently undergone what he says will be his “final” neck surgery.
